Property Summary

This little bit of paradise is a perfect location to set up camp for your retirement getaway. .20 acres of land gives you minimal maintenance, but with a lot of options to build. Situated in the town of Hawthorne in Putnam County, Florida, you’ll be tucked away in a secluded area just outside of Gainesville with easy access to both coasts.

Ask the residents here and they will tell you that they love living here. It’s a rural neighborhood, but close to the big cities like Gainesville where you have access to things like the University of Florida, a number of community colleges, major hospitals, shopping, and a n airport. There are hundreds of lakes in the area to fish, boat and just relax on. Explore nearby Little Orange Creek Nature Park, Lindsey Phillips Park, and the Hawthorne Museum.

Originally home to major orange groves in the 1880’s, the Great Freeze of 1894 stopped Hawthorne from being a major citrus growing community. The main crops of the area then turned to vegetables and cotton. It’s now a growing lakes community due to its centralized location among major cities, attractions and the prized beaches of the Florida coasts.

The city opened Little Orange Creek Nature Park in 2017. The park has 65 acres of land allotted to the park as well as an environmental-education and event center. An additional 2,800 acres are considered a conservation area, but has public trails for hiking, bicycling, and even horseback riding. Lindsey Phillips Park, has a boat ramp, a fishing pier, a playground, and picnicking areas. Outside of Hawthorne you can visit the Lochloosa Wildlife Management Area for some epic bird watching on the Cross Creek Trail. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park is just southwest of Hawthorne, named for the Pulitzer Prize-winning author.
