Petrified Forest National Park is a United States national park in Navajo and Apache counties in northeastern Arizona. Named for its large deposits of petrified wood, the park covers about 230 square miles, encompassing semi-desert shrub steppe as well as highly eroded and colorful badlands. The park’s headquarters is about 26 miles east of Holbrook along Interstate 40, which parallels the BNSF Railway’s Southern Transcon, the Puerco River, and historic U.S. Route 66, all crossing the park roughly east-west. The site, the northern part of which extends into the Painted Desert, was declared a national monument in 1906 and a national park in 1962. About 800,000 people visit the park each year and take part in activities including sightseeing, photography, hiking, and backpacking.

Petrified Forest National Park is known for its fossils, especially of fallen trees that lived in the Late Triassic period of the Mesozoic era, about 225 million years ago. During this period, the region that is now the park was near the equator on the southwestern edge of the supercontinent Pangaea

Average summer daytime temperatures range in the mid-to high 90s Fahrenheit. Because the clear skies of the park allow for rapid cooling at night, summer lows are sometimes 40°F below the daily highs. July is the warmest month, with an average high of 92°F  and an average low of 60°F. January is the coldest month, when highs average 48°F  and lows average 21°.

This property is remote and has no roads cut in. You would have to cross over approx 2 miles of desert terrain to reach this property. The terrain coming south from I40 looks to be challenging with some cliffs and valleys in the direct path south. An off-road vehicle, horse, ATV or travel by foot would be required. There is also a large wash that runs SW from I40 and leads to an area very close to the property. This may be the best access route. The property can also be accessed from the west via Petrified Forest Road by hiking in from the road (approx 2 miles)

The photos for this listing were all taken within a mile or two of the property (mostly just to the west of the property). They represent a very good perspective of what the land looks like.
