He planned and marketed a lake community complete with a lodge, golf course, airport and even rodeo grounds. Today you might find yourself on Candy Lane or Mistletoe Road as you drive around town.

While it has become a popular retirement destination, the area is still primarily an alfalfa farming community. You’ll find a quaint downtown with access to grocery stores, motels, restaurants, and a gas station. When you need a larger shopping destination, the outlying neighboring towns offer additional amenities or you can head into bigger cities like Bend for a Walmart run.

This piece of paradise in the American Northwest gives you access to an amazing getaway plus an easy drive to destinations like Seattle, San Francisco, or even Vancouver, Canada. A focus on renewable energy is paramount in the area. In fact, this lot is near the local Outback Solar Plant. You can consider solar power, geothermal heating and cooling, or alternative fuel options like biomass as part of your compound. Mobile homes are allowed on the property, and if they are older than 1976, you’ll need a conditional use permit (CUP). You can also camp on the property for short periods of time with a permit.
