Property APN:

 8258

Area
24.50 Acres

Property Summary

Located in the Trans-Pecos region of Texas, this nearly 25 acre property is just south of the New Mexico border in rural Culberson County. The lot sits in the city of Van Horn, which is the county seat. The area was founded in 1911, named after David B. Culberson, a lawyer and Confederate soldier in the American Civil War, as well as a Democratic U.S. Representative from Texas and Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. The Clark Hotel Museum will give you a bit of quirky history about the area too.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park is worth the trip and is home to 86,000 acres of land and Texas’ highest mountain, Guadalupe Peak, which soars to 8750 feet. Its twin peak is known as El Capitan and is just a bit shorter at 8085 feet. The park and mountain range have plenty to explore, including Devils’ Hall Trail and McKittrick Canyon, which has been called “the most beautiful spot in Texas”. The park’s Frijole Ranch Museum displays the history of the Native American tribes in the Guadalupe area, as well as the history of the national park itself. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Culberson County hosts the “Big Buck” tournament every June, and you can also do some hunting in the Sierra Diablo Wildlife Management Area – a sanctuary for the last remaining desert bighorn sheep in Texas. There is no shortage of natural wonders in the area, like Big Bend National Park. It’s a mecca for nature lovers, hunters, and those who love to explore.

Small town Van Horn offers the quaint necessities, but you’ll have to travel into the big city of El Paso for major shopping and a bigger variety of restaurants and cultural attractions. Grab a drink at the Hotel El Capitan, some authentic tex mex At Chuy’s, or you can even get in nine holes at the Mountain View Golf Course.

Currently, there are no zoning restrictions, size minimums or time limits for building on your lot. Choose what you want! It can be a site built, mobile, modular, or a manufactured home. Camp on your property while you visit the sites in the area. Camping in an RV is allowed for a maximum of 30 days without a permit. If you leave it there for more than 30 days you have to apply for a permit and must have a septic system. Livestock is allowed, so if a family farm is what you’re after, then welcome home.
