Situated east of Albuquerque and south of Santa Fe, the town of Moriarty is the perfect getaway in picturesque Torrance County, New Mexico. Almost 5 acres gives you plenty of land to really make your own. The town is named after Michael Timothy Moriarty, his wife and their three children who were the first family to settle in the area in 1887. With a landscape of gently-rolling grassland, Michael Moriarty became one of many cattle ranchers in central New Mexico. He was also the very first postmaster in Moriarty when a post office came to town in 1903. The town of Moriarty continues to welcome travelers with it’s easy access off of the infamous Route 66.

Nearby Albuquerque and Santa Fe give you the opportunity to take in all the entertainment, sporting events, nightlife, events and culture that you desire while still giving you a rural, quiet, and affordable place away from the hustle and bustle.The nearby Manzano Mountains rise to 10,098 feet on the western edge of the county and provide beautiful views and plenty of nature activities. Take in a horse barrel trace at a local ranch or go off-roading at Cuervo Mountain RV Park.

The area offers hunting, fishing, hiking, and pretty much any outdoor activities you could desire. You can hike through the Manzano Wilderness area and revel in the many notable geographic features like a series of playas and seasonal lakes centering on Laguna del Perro.While you can’t hunt on your land (it’s a residential community) there are plenty of places for the avid hunter in the area. Look for bighorn sheep in the Peloncillo Mountains or Montezuma quail in the open woodlands. Just be sure to check what licenses you may need for each season, and where you can hunt for what.

You have options when it comes to what to build or not on your lot. Since it’s a residential neighborhood, site built, manufactured or mobile homes are all allowed. You can camp with restrictions and RV’s are allowed for up to 3 months with a permit from the planning and zoning department. Whatever you decide, life will be sweet in Sweetwater Hills.
