Level Ground, Wide Sky, and Nobody to Ask Permission
If you've spent a few years watching town prices climb while some association tells you what you can and can't do with your own yard, you already know the itch. You want a piece of ground that's actually yours, where the only person deciding where the house goes is you. This one sits flat and open in the Estancia Valley, close enough to Moriarty to run to town in ten minutes, far enough out that nobody's counting your outbuildings.
The land is level high-desert grassland, the kind you can lay out however you please. Set the house where the morning light lands, put a shop out back, run a garden, keep a couple of horses if that suits you. Homesteader, cabin builder, off-gridder, guy who's done being told what color his mailbox can be? There's room here for all of it, and room to build it at your own pace.
Moriarty sits about four miles northeast, and it's one of the best-known soaring towns in the country. The airport is home to the Albuquerque Soaring Club and the U.S. Southwest Soaring Museum, and on a good day glider pilots ride the valley thermals up past twenty thousand feet.
There's no community water line out here, so you'll put in your own well or haul it, which also means no monthly water bill and nobody upstream of your tap.
Land like this doesn't ask much of you except a plan and the nerve to start. The valley's held steady out here a long time, and it's got room for one more story.
